I have just aquired an older style ski boat with a 202 engine and weber
carbie. On my first run out it coughed and spluttered but eventually we got it up to 40mph. On the way back in it kept stalling under idle. We decided to clean out the carbie and found a bit of muck in jets and filters. Tried again, this time worse. Didn't even get 50m off shore and almost flattened battery. Took petrol pump off...replaced pump, put in fuel shut off valve...tried again. Still no joy...coughs and splutters and cuts out under load. Any suggestions? |

Replace points & condensor, set points gap/dwell. Replace old weak coil. Replace plug wires & coil wire. Check ballast resistor for specs. Use fresh gas. Rob |

Rob older 202/3.3 motors had a habit of skipping the timing gear on the dizzy when old. check to see is its plastic gear if so get a gear of a old oil pump (any holden red/blue six) and replace with that. Sounds majorly like the idle fuel circuit is blocked. The stromberg i know but the webber was not a standard holden carby and i hate carbys at the best of times. It is also a good idea to change the timing gear its self if its NOT alloy.. original was fiber (runs quieter) but was a habit of stripping at the worst times If you want to improve the spark ect replace the dizzy/coil cap and leads with a electronic one from any of the blue six range....bolts straight in no wiring mods needed.......you Will need to upgrade the leads and plugs tho coz the old ones WILL die with the newer electronic dizzy. managed a holden wrecking yard 8 1/2 years Shaun |
