just wanted to add the following.
I read the dmv page, http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/fees/reg_fees.htm, but it's not clear to me whether I have to pay just $100 of penalty or $100 for each of the past 19 years? can anyone shed some lights on this? thx s o s o wrote: hi all, I live in Calif. If the registration was dropped, it was dropped - doesn't make any sense that you have to pay back registration for years that it wasn't used. It is California. You either have to keep the registration valid or pay a $5 certificate of non operation for cars on your property. As to the boat, I would see if you could register it with just a bill of sale, and not the pink slip. After 19 years, it is not in the DMV data base anymore. Or ask the DMV office. |

Call the DMV at 800-777-0133. Have the Hull ID number with you. If
the boat has not been purged for the system you will be required to pay 3 prior years with penalties plus the current year reg. You can no longer non op the boat after the reg has expired for more than 90 day. You can use the bill of sale (boat value less than $2000.00) to transfer ownership as stated by another poster but that will not change the fees. The reg fee went up to $10 per year as of ’07 billed two years at a time. If the boat is valued over $2000. and you do not have the title or dup title applacation signed by the last registered owner you will have to post a motor vehicle bond as part of the transfer. If the file has been purged than you will have to retitle and register it as if it were a new boat(no back fees). The forms you will need are BOAT101 and REG343-pg 2(vin verif) the second form needs to be filled out by a DMV tech or sworn peace officer- DMV will not charge for this service. The forms are all available at www.dmv.ca.gov Dont forget the same is true for the trailer if it comes with one. Good luck!!!! "Calif Bill" wrote: "Short Wave Sportfishing" wrote in message ...
