WEST MARINE HONORED WITH THE PATRIOT AWARD
FOR EXCEPTIONAL SUPPORT OF THE MEN AND WOMEN IN THE MILITARY

Glad to hear it.
Jim

Do try to be consistent, Jim. Or at least not so darn obvious.

When I cut 'n paste an item about a boating supply company earning an
award for "supporting our troops" you say you're glad to hear it.

When I post an item about a company donating doors and windows to
restore historic lighthouses (no political connection, really) you
bitch about it.

Charles, I am extremely consistent. And what's wrong with being obvious? I
applaud West Marine for earning that award. The window article is obituary
page filler material.
I think Harry had it right. In both cases the companies in question, used
their community service acts to back door into an ad for their products.
Kinda like you doing your "reports" on your sponsor's boats and products.

There's a distinct difference between "XYZ Company donated $1,000,000
to improve salmon habitat in spawning rivers. (XYZ Company manufactures
the best selling widget in North America" and something that reads "Run
out and buy an XYZ widget. They're on sale this week at 20% off, and
you'll never want to own another brand of widget after using an XYZ."

From the broad perspective, I am *delighted* to see both you and Harry

suddenly so zealous about content in the NG. I guess you will both be
sticking pretty closely to topic from hereon, right? Certainly if news
about a company donating some big bucks to restore historic lighthouses
is inappropriate in a group organized around recreational boating,
personal attack and political posts must be even more egregiously
offensive.
