I'm not shepherding anything.

When I see trash laying around, I like to tidy up a bit.

If I thought you were an idiot, I wouldn't bother responding to your
personal attacks.

It's completely hilarious that you think one person expressing an
opionion that is different than your own must somehow be attempting to
"take over" the NG. My opinion carries no more weight than any other.

If you'd care to present a case outlining why cross-posted political
propaganda (from either the left or the right), endless streams of cut
'n pasted pro-war, anti-war, pro-Bush, anti-Bush political editorials,
and the out of control flaming and personal grudges that result from
same are appropriate for and improve a *boating* newsgroup, I would
certainly read it with an open mind. Not saying that I would agree, of
course, but I wouldn't take issue with it simply because you compared
me to Saddam Hussein, Hitler, and Stalin (?) this week. :-)

Most newsreaders allow you to ignore a thread or poster. Some, I'm told,
allow you to ignore cross posting. It's pretty easy to keep things tidy
without going off like a mad-man. If you want to see something funny, set
your reader to read all messages and group messages by thread. This will
show you how your tidying up with your Chuckie dots and other tactics have
been instrumental in causing this current mess. You decide if you want it to
continue this way.
Belated Merry Season of Lights and Happy New year,
Jim

Looks like we agree again? Could the end of the world be far away? :-)

I now make sure that any cleanup is restricted to rec.boats. You're
absolutely right- the jackasses that get their rocks off posting
hateful propaganda to a broad spectrum of newsgroups are encouraged by
any sort of response. I'd like to think that

1) The perpetrators of this bs are not rec.boats regulars

2) If the thread is obscured, it's maybe less likely that somebody of a
differing political persuasion will pick up the sword in rec.boats and
actually respond to these idiots.

There's a chance I could be wrong. But we won't know for sure until we
have a chance to observe the results.

Belated Merry Christmas (assuming you're Christian) and Happy New Year
to you as well.

Sounds good to me, but first, let's rescind all of the stupid manatee
speed zones. Everyone in the state of Florida who dislikes boats for
one reason or another has petitioned for their own personal manatee
zone, usually extending for at least a mile or two.

Matatees are the spotted owl of the coastal regions, everyone's pet
environmental cause if it serves their interests.

Chuck,

Personally, I don't really care about the dots. Like it's been said,
everyone has the right to post what they want *including* changing the
subject line, since we're unmoderated. If someone takes issue with the dot,
then CHANGE IT BACK if you feel the need to reply.

There's no need to lambast *anyone* who changes the subject line (including
dots). However, this a boating newsgroup, and I for one, applaude your
efforts to, "tidy up the trash." I don't care what anyone's political views
are here, nor do I care to hear about them in a BOATING NEWSGROUP.

Sure, sometimes it's relevant. If GWB decided to tax every single vessel
based on hours used, then there'd be some politics here. Otherwise, why
can't we just stick to boating?

Hell, I'm as guilty as anyone getting sucked into ****ing fights, but no
more. I come here for boating information, and nothing else. I do realize
that this time of year is a slow boating season for most, but posting crap
just for the sake of posting is absurd.

Remember, "sticks and stones." Just ignore any personal attacks, because
let's face it... it aint personal! Apart from very few, no one on usenet
really knows anyone else. No one knows who's being honest. No one knows
where you live. No one knows anything about you other than what you post
here. If someone doesn't really know you, it's hard to get personal. We'll
all be better off if we just turn our backs and ignore the crap.

Soap box off... flame away... I won't respond g
