I watched parts of that the other night. The Chinese Govt. doesn't mess around with pirates: A roundup of 38 involved people (including a customs official) followed by a quick public trial followed by public execution (bullet to the brain). Rather painless and certainly quick with not much suffering! IMHO, I am an opponent of the death penalty here (US) but there is something to be said for rapid use of it when you are positive of someone's guilt. I can see where it would be a deterrent to crime. Unlike in our country where we keep someone on death row for 10-20 years while spending vast amounts of money while they are going through myriad appeal after appeal then to finally give them a lethal injection. That is not the death penalty. that is life with the possibility of death at the end of a long road Fredo |
