Default Ruminations on a GB 42...

I recently sold a GB 36 1971 "woodie" that I'll always regret selling....(I
was moving about 6,0000 miles.) It was designed, engineered and built to
standards that no other boat I have seen in my brief 56 years on the water.
No "rot," remarkable engineering details for the engines, fuel systems, etc.
like no other vessel I have other been on other than a Bering Sea crabber.

These are probably the most incredible "production boats" ever built.
"Woodies" get bad reputations when they are maintained by the same people
who buy Toyotas. They deserve that fate.

Toyotas require very little maintenance and last almost forever.

Your point?

No, no, no.

Confuse-us say:

"Never take a wooden Nikki",

(or something like that).

I always thought my next vehicle would be a Toyota (Sienna or
Highlander) but they're screwing us on price here. The spread between a
Toyota price in the US & locally has remained the same since our dollar
was only worth 60 US cents a few years ago...but now is over 90 cents.
When cornered they admit to charging what the market will bear.
Also, the dealers won't dicker on price. Take it or leave it seems to be
the local dealers mo.

If you can't afford it, move on. There's no point in complaining about
the price.

Not just a question of 'affording it'.
Some of us don't like to be taken for rubes.
The car dealers in Calif. must love to see you walk in.

Comparing a Toyota to a mahogany Grand Banks is like comparing Walmart to
Nordstrom's. Popularity doesn't make something good........look at congress
and the Oopsie Winfrey show.

Everything on the planet, always, is sold at what the market will bear. If
Toyota wants $30K- $40K for a Toyota, they call it a "Lexus."

PT Barnum elaborated on that a hunnerd years ago. (Excuse spelling and
pronunciation....I went to government schools)
