When I lived in Jax, I used to go fishing with a bunch of guys, several
of whom would drop shot glasses of schnapps into mugs of beer. Those
guys were usually out cold before we got 10 miles from shore.

My maternal Grandfather had this afternoon routine which, in
retrospect, probably kept him alive and vital.

When he got home from the foundry, he stopped at the bar down the
street from his house and ordered a Pabst Blue Ribbon. He'd drink
that talking with his bar buddies, then would order another with a
double shot of Jameson Irish which he would promptly pour into the
glass of beer, drink that, then go home.

He did that everyday of his working and retired life. He lived to be
101. :)

Sounds like a combination of moderation and commaderie kept him going.
I wish I could enjoy 2 or 3 beers, but I just get too sleepy after one
beer to really enjoy it.
