Default Go Joe!!

If the Senate ends up tied (49/49 with 2 independents) it makes Joe the most
powerful man in the government.

Ironic.

For the last two days, on the O'Reilly Factor on hate radio, Senator Joe
has been given the green light by, of all places, Bill O'Reilly, with lots
of free airtime to get him elected. I'm not sure which of them is crazy.
They BOTH are on opposite ends of the yardstick, right??

I'm guessing Repubs with a two seat margin, excluding a recount in
Virginia.

But the Dems took the House, and by a decent margin. We're finally going
to have some oversight over the Bush mis-administration.

Pffft.

1) Veto pen.
2) Senate confirms Bush's third SCOTUS appointment

Your boy is a lame duck, and any number of Republican U.S. Senators coming
up for re-election in 2008 will be rushing towards the middle.

Quack.

Most of the Democrats who won the House races all ran to the right.
Pro-God, pro-life, pro-gun.

A split Congress means less spending. I see the deficit falling even faster
than Bush predicted.

This hopefully will show both parties that if they want to win, they
better move towards the center.

The Republican party has slowly been drifting towards the center over the
past 6 years as evidenced by the changes in leadership (Lott to Frist, and
Delay to Hastert).

The Democratic Party leadership is about as far left as you can get, yet
they were carried to victory by the conservative members of their party. If
they transition those lefty extremists out, and put the conservative
Democrats in, they'll win the White House in '08. If not, they'll lose the
House again, *and* lose the Presidency.

And if Pelosi starts a witch hunt, watch the incumbents bite the dust in the
next election. People are even more ****ed at Congress than at the
Executive branch. So those in charge should pay attention. People are
****ed at the lack of decent legislation and overspending by both major
parties. they keep doing the same thing, both may become Whig parties.

That is true. This is still going to be a fairly conservative
congress. Losing guys like Chafee who consistantly voted against Bush
anyway is not scaring him.
Lieberman winning is pushing the DNC back on the war. Dean was on
tonight warning the faithful that we are not leaving Iraq any time
soon. Pity.

Chris Mathews was pushing Dean pretty hard for the democratic "plan" to exit
from Iraq.
Dean was so tongue tied he couldn't answer for a while. Finally, he
muttered something like, "after we get control, we'll figure out something".

Decisive.

As expected actually - it's not unusual in a second term one-party
Congress - it's not like it's historical or anything.

And to tell the truth, the Dems have a good chance to make things
right - I don't think they will do it and I'd be willing to bet that
Rep. Pelosi won't be able to control her troops well enough - just a
feeling I have.

Absolutely not true. The Dems have plenty on the table, ready to go in
just the first 100 HOURS:

Franklin Roosevelt had his first hundred days. House Democratic leader
Nancy Pelosi is thinking 100 hours, time enough, she says, to begin to
"drain the swamp" after more than a decade of Republican rule. As in
the first 100 hours the House meets after Democrats in her fondest wish
win control in the Nov. 7 midterm elections and Pelosi takes the gavel
as the first Madam Speaker in history.

Day One: Put new rules in place to "break the link between lobbyists
and legislation."

Day Two: Enact all the recommendations made by the commission that
investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Time remaining until 100 hours: Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an
hour, maybe in one step. Cut the interest rate on student loans in
half. Allow the government to negotiate directly with the
pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients.
Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds "I
hope with a veto-proof majority," she added in an Associated Press
interview Thursday.

All the days after that: "Pay as you go," meaning no increasing the
deficit, whether the issue is middle class tax relief, health care or
some other priority. To do that, she said, Bush-era tax cuts would have
to be rolled back for those above "a certain level." She mentioned
annual incomes of $250,000 or $300,000 a year and higher, and said tax
rates for those individuals might revert to those of the Clinton era.
Details will have to be worked out, she emphasized. "We believe in the
marketplace," Pelosi said of Democrats, then drew a contrast with
Republicans. "They have only rewarded wealth, not work."
