Last I heard he was running for congress.

On the Republican evangelical gay ticket...

And he hired a Harry Krause as his speech writer.

I read Eisboch asking about Marcus recently. Is he one of them?

I guess Skipper would be numero uno on this list..........correct?

I don't know about Skipper, but I think one of the funniest, long running
threads ever posted on this NG was the great bilge pump debate between
Marcus and Mrs. B. I forget who Mrs B. was but I remember she submitted a
picture of a weird, Rube Goldberg type contraption as her "boat" on the
original "Boats of Rec.Boats" website.

The greatest thread of all stated with somthing like "Bayliners sides
flex" or somthing like that. It ran for years :-)

I was responsible for that one. At that time, the Bayliner fishing boat
sides wobbled if you pressed into them with your hand.

Ah, but Skipper corrected you. They were purpose-built and supposed to
flex.

JAX was a classic, no question. He once advised someone heading south
from the great lakes to turn off Lake Ontario at Rochester, NY and
follow the Genesee River to the NYS Barge Canal. The only problem is
that he overlooked some minor navigational impediments:

He still swore it was the right way to go after about 5 explanations
to the contrary.

Hehehehe I remembered you started that thread Harry. It had to be the
longest running thread in this newsgroups history :-) But it did help
propell Skipper into wrecked.boats legend :-) love him or not..

Agreed. Definitely.

I just wonder if he was a real person or a brilliantly
executed sockpuppet. A certain comic/manic genius in many of
his posts.

The Genessee is a very nice river, and it does have a
channel leading from the canal north into town, but that
channel stops at about the south border of the university
IIRC. Standing on the university foot bridge, you can see
the old dam (looks like about a 15' drop) and then turn to
look the other way at the scenic falls. No way to get a boat
thru there, not even a kayak.

My favorite JAX-ism was the "dangerous rocks" at Cape Hattaras.

He still swore it was the right way to go after about 5 explanations
to the contrary.

That was part of "his' charm. Jax was NEVER wrong! I just
hope no lurkers or googlers ever took any of his advice
seriously.

Yes, the famous "all chain rode" discussion.

Apparently the navy never realized what grave danger it was in until
Jax pointed it out.
