Agreed. Definitely.

JAX was a classic, no question.

I just wonder if he was a real person or a brilliantly
executed sockpuppet. A certain comic/manic genius in many of
his posts.

... He once advised someone heading south
from the great lakes to turn off Lake Ontario at Rochester, NY and
follow the Genesee River to the NYS Barge Canal. The only problem is
that he overlooked some minor navigational impediments:

The Genessee is a very nice river, and it does have a
channel leading from the canal north into town, but that
channel stops at about the south border of the university
IIRC. Standing on the university foot bridge, you can see
the old dam (looks like about a 15' drop) and then turn to
look the other way at the scenic falls. No way to get a boat
thru there, not even a kayak.

My favorite JAX-ism was the "dangerous rocks" at Cape Hattaras.

He still swore it was the right way to go after about 5 explanations
to the contrary.

That was part of "his' charm. Jax was NEVER wrong! I just
hope no lurkers or googlers ever took any of his advice
seriously.
