Only on Frenchmen from Quebec. Don't talk to me about Quebec. In the 1950's they built the St. Lawrence Seaway that took most of the summer cargo handling work from Halifax. Dad was a Longshoreman so things were very tight until unemployment insurance came in to help supplement what had become seasonal employment almost overnight. Now with the hugh post-Panamax container ships, we have a chance to grab a lot of that back as the East Coast Gateway. Quebec City just recently decided they should be the East Coast Gateway.. and expect federal money to make it happen. No question who has all the advantages... except political clout. http://thechronicleherald.ca/Search/536500.html http://www.portofhalifax.ca/ |
