And it has nothing to do with sex or reproduction, either. Sheesh. Talk about knee-jerk. Amazing. After hearing any term enough it becomes a standard part of the vocabulary. The term has to do with masculinity, and implies that people living in cities (metro) will be have a different sexuality than those who do not. (sexual). It expresses the idea that there is a sort of different sex that is only found in cities. If it was intended to mean something else, it was poorly coined. The term has been around for years, and it has nothing to do with sex. |

It was someone's attempt to be clever, but I see you weren't amused. It was coined to refer to someone, probably from an urban setting, who was straight but had many of the personal interests and characteristics often associated with gay men, ie "queer eye for straight guy" fab five. Imagine Carson only straight. del |

"Metrosexual"? Why do so many issues seem to boil down to intercourse or reproduction with that group, anyway? But I guess they will keep telling the country mice that the city mice are all corrupt and shouldn't be listened to. I wonder what Fox would think of boaters wearing sandals? Seems to be a common practice during the summer months, especially among sailors. Suppose sandals are "metrosexual" too? Or are they alright because Jesus wore sandals and according to Pat Robertson he's a Bush supporter? Or are they verbotin because them long haired, draft card burning, war-opposing hippies were known to wear them in the 60's? Wonder what Fox would think if Jesus showed up in flip-flops, George Bush wore sandals, and the pink triangle fraternity all showed up in combat boots? I guess it would be back to the drawing board, again, for poor old "fear unbalanced" Fox. Is there a difference in masculinity aboard my boat if I'm wearing my Topsiders and a friend or a guest is wearing flip flops? Heck no. Conclusion: Stereotypes and nearly always wrong except when being promoted to be negative and devisive..(in that case they aren't nearly always wrong, just plain always wrong). Boaters who prefer to avoid thinking in stereotypes will wear whatever they damn well please and whatever is appropriate for conditions. "Metrosexual". What a negative, hateful, and divisive connotation. And how utterly silly! Hey Chuck, I think the subject was the flip-flops, not bashing Fox News! A few months ago, NBC had a piece about metrosexual men getting their bodies waxed. I wonder what NBC would think if Mohammed showed up with his body nicely waxed? Is there a difference in masculinity if Brian Williams waxes and O'Reilly doesn't? It appears as though you were looking to take a shot at Fox. That's OK. Just keep in mind that at least Fox News will report the stories, not cover them up. |

I can guaranteeeeee that I aint never been metrosexual but am a serious 6th generation N. FL redneck and flip flops are a normal part of my attire. They say that men shouldnt think women want to look at their feet. Dang, I never thought a woman would wanna look at my feet and flops beat sandspurs and walking on oyster shells. You dont think i'd be warin an old diesel smelling T-shirt and ragged shorts (with my trusty Taznanian Devil flip flops) if I wanted a gal to look at me do ya? Supposedly "merosexual " guys are overly concerned 'bout their appearance. I have always been accused of not giving a damn 'bout my appearance. Am gonna keep wearin my flops even if'n y'all think they are gay. Go screw yur selves. Take it to alt. girlieman.footware please. |

I have always worn them whenever we head out on the boat during the summer, especially when we go swimming off the boat. I kick the off once in the boat and go barefoot. Although I am not a slob I could care less what others think about the way I dress. I buy shoes, pants (khakis and jeans) and shirts that are comfortable. I have maintained my weight so I have a good selection of suits accumulated through my working life. I do not shop often and when I do now it is at Kohl's. ;-) If you have to impress folks with your clothes you normally don't have anything to else to offer. |
