I expected to be dazzled by the "Boardwalk in Atlantic City" and all I saw was some crumbling lumber. Sad...... Ahh... Atlantic City. I have warm feelings for AC because my mother told me I was conceived there. At that time, my father was running one of his uncle's stores there; he and my mother had moved there after getting married in Massachusetts. I can't resist... Harry, if at the time of your conception your father was running a store, who participated in the conception? He did. My father was the store manager, and my mom was the head cashier. There was a little back room... Great comeback! You get the award today! LOL! Actually, I know EXACTLY where I was conceived. My parents had rented a house in AC and my mom had old photos of it, along with the address. That's the place. I drove by it in 2000 while attending a convention in AC. Not only was the house still here, but it was in good repair and had been renovated recently. It was about two blocks from the beach. I was hoping to see a commemorative bronze plaque there, but, alas, it apparently had been stolen! Three months before I was born, my parents moved permanently to the New Haven area, to run a store there and to spend more time operating another business, a machine shop, my father and uncle started in New Haven in 1941. Sometime after my parents divorced, my mother threw out just about everything having anything to do with my father, except the kids. I know very little about his background or even what he was doing when I was born. I know he was in the military, perhaps the Navy. Later he went into the Army Air Corps which eventually became the Air Force. Knowing your family history is nice. I can trace my mother's side back to the 1400's, in Holland. But I lose my father's side with his father. |
