4. Install Windows Media Player Classic V6.4
5. Uninstall all codecs you can find on your computer
6. Install Combined-Community-Codec-Pack-2006-07-28.exe
7. Make Windows Media Player Classic V6.4 your default player
8. Restart your computer and enjoy.

This codec pack plays anything and everything.

If you install the older version of WMP, aren't you taking about 38 steps
backward, in terms of security?

Not really. You do have to go through all the options and disable all
the auto update and reporting features.
Hopefully my firewall will take care of any problems. )

Why can't we get codecs for the current version of WMP? Have licensing
issues caught up with Microsoft?
