On to something still off topic (so I'll probably get chastised again) but..... I guess I'm the last of the old school 35mm film photographers. I have a small digital, and am going to make the move to a digital slr. I found a D50 for a reasonable price: http://www.royalcamera.com/nikond50kit.html I'll be adding lenses later, plus, I really need to buckle down and learn to get up to the level that I am with film. But, I digress, I think I saw a thread where you, JohnH, Harry, Shortwave, etc were discussing digital slr. I THINK I understood through those posts that lens length doesn't equal the same as 35mm, is that true? For instance, is a 50mm lens for 35mm the same zoom factor as for digital slr? |

I saw their prices when I was in the market, and could not figure out who would fall for their obvious scam. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably isn't. Do business with a reputable company, Amazon, B&H, Ritz.com etc. Don't fall for the internet crooks. |

I saw their prices when I was in the market, and could not figure out who would fall for their obvious scam. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably isn't. Do business with a reputable company, Amazon, B&H, Ritz.com etc. Don't fall for the internet crooks. here are others companies playing the same game. http://forums.photographyreview.com/...ad.php?t=15877 |

Nikon lenses have a multiplier of 1.5. So your 50mm will be the equivalent of 75mm. A friend of mine bought the D50 and loves it. |

But I find it odd that Chuck and a couple of others find it just terrible when *I* do it, but give most others a free pass! Look around, it's true. PS. Be very careful buying from a discount house. In looking at the ad, I saw nothing about the Nikon warranty, only an optional '4 year extended warranty'. Maybe I missed it, but not being able to call Nikon with a problem (and they *do* occur) would make you a very ****ed off camper. Besides, buying one at a local shop gives you a person to go to with questions about the camera. If you read the details on the D50 you would have seen the D50 had a MP3 player built in. grin I have purchased all my camera equipment from online dealers. They have a much better selection, better prices, and more knowledgeable salesman than I have found locally, but I only do business with reputable, long term companies. Except for Amazon, they all have brick and mortar stores and have very experienced and knowledgeable salesman. http://www.adorama.com/ http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ http://www.amazon.com/ http://www.ritzcamera.com/ http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/home.aspx Before I do business with any online dealer, I do a quick search for "Dealer name reviews" and read the online reviews. Ritz is now the same as Wolf, and I've had a very good relationship with Wolf for years. |

Now I'm again painting a coat of garage floor two part epoxy on all edges and surfaces. Glue and screw to the stringers, using silicone between all seams. Then, I'll use another coat of the two part epoxy to finish coat. No carpet! I think it will look decent, and be durable. Oh, the to the two part epoxy paint I added a non-skid agent. But, alas, the thread got hijacked by Dan, one of the people, like JimH that you, for some reason, give a free pass to say whatever they want, ALWAYS off topic, but when I do the same, it's suddenly a horrific thing! If you are going to play netcop, you should at least be even handed at it, and you aren't. By a long shot. Bass, I think you missed Chuck's point. The NG is falling back to the point where the majority of the post are political, inflammatory and consist of flaming and name calling. It is always easy to say "the other guy started it", but the only way to end it is for you to ignore them. Why don't you stop responding to all the political and inflammatory trolls, and definitely stop cut and pasting political articles, and try to say on topic. I know there are many others who are doing to the same, but you can only control your own behavior. But I find it odd that Chuck and a couple of others find it just terrible when *I* do it, but give most others a free pass! Look around, it's true. Nikon lenses have a multiplier of 1.5. So your 50mm will be the equivalent of 75mm. A friend of mine bought the D50 and loves it. Is it just Nikon or Nikkor lenses or is that for digital SLR lenses et al.? Also, do non-digital Nikon lenses work with digital cameras? The Canon had a 1.6 multiplier. I don't know about the others. My daughter uses a lens she had with a regular SLR on her D70. Just looked at Best Buy $699.99 gets the body and an 18-55mm lens, while at Ritz $599.99 gets the body and a 28-80mm lens....... |

If you buy from a local guy, you can always take your Nikon lenses in and try them on the D50. Never owned a Nikon! I've been a Pentax man since my second SLR, first was a Yashica. Once I got my first Pentax and started getting lenses and accesories, then of course I couldn't change without paying the price! What I liked about the Pentax's were that they were good beater cameras. My current one has dents and dings all over it where I've climbed rocks and stuff! But, in digitals, when looking at features, I'm constantly going back to the Nikon. I figure I'd get the D50, use it for my digital learning curve, then sell it to my brother and upgrade. |

It's an old boat, and I'm thinking of getting a new(er) one in a year or sooner, so really I'm looking to get it through fall fishing and then sell it. SO, what I decided to do was this. After cutting all of my plywood pieces and checking the fit, I primed everything, edges and both faces with oil base primer. Heavily! Nikon lenses have a multiplier of 1.5. So your 50mm will be the equivalent of 75mm. A friend of mine bought the D50 and loves it. Is it just Nikon or Nikkor lenses or is that for digital SLR lenses et al.? Also, do non-digital Nikon lenses work with digital cameras? PS. Well, I love my D200, and apparently others in the group do to. Get a decent lens so you can keep using it when you upgrade the body. You may find that the D50 does everything you want it to. |

There are many, many negative posts FROM JIMH TO YOU that are very recent. No sale, bass. Adults get over it and move on. Kids archive this stuff and bring it up forever. Google is a kid? Got anything boating related to contribute, or does the group remain, (for you), a play pen where various drama queens counter-post "You insulted me!"? Chuck, whining doesn't befit you very well. Why not get back to those archives of negative posts you seem to store and see if you can find something in there posted by you, about boating, any time recently. Good luck. No problem! My daughter uses a lens she had with a regular SLR on her D70. Just looked at Best Buy $699.99 gets the body and an 18-55mm lens, while at Ritz $599.99 gets the body and a 28-80mm lens....... Check out the lens mfg'er. The Ritz at $599 is their private label lens. Big difference between the lens. It sounded a little fishy. Thanks for clearing that up. |

Fact is that individual was you. If JimH has posted negative comments to or about me, then it would seem fair that it would be my option to react to those comments, or not. At some point we need to let bygones by bygones- or else we could spend the rest of life just trying to get "even" for some dirty comment so-and-so made on such-and-such a date. |

This obsession that he has with me and his threats made to me have reached beyond what one would expect from a reasonable and sane person. Do I fear the guy.........you betcha! He has threatened others here of physical harm. He has threatened to do physical harm to me, including him "hunting me down to find me". Those are not the words of a mentally stable person. Knowing this no sane person would then accept to meet him personally. Perhaps this can put an end to his recent *challenge* to me: I will not meet him personally and if he shows up at my house he can expect to be arrested by my local police department as they have been advised of this lunatics past threats to me. I hope this is crystal clear to him. ;-) |

Just to confuse 35mm film guys like me? -- All digital cameras do not have the "multiplier." You might consider a non-SLR digital. My wife has a new Canon A710 IS and took this shot yesterday: http://tinyurl.com/rs66s Rainy today out in Lost Wages. Blech. When it rains out there, it's certainly gray and yucky! I'm an old 35mm SLR guy, therefore I want a digital slr. I've already got a non-SLR digital. Nice shot, though!! |
