Flag on the roof of the General Lee?


When I take it out for it's once or twice a monthly turn around, it's met
with waves, honks, smiles, hoots and yee-haws. If I stop anywhere for gas
or at a store there are usually one or two people that come over with their
cell phone cameras and ask to take pictures. I've taken it to a local
cruise night event a couple of times and it's been a big hit. I allow
people to sit in it or, if they are small kids, on the driver's door window
sill to have their picture taken by friends or parents. There is always a
line and everyone gets a big kick out of it. I think I mentioned before
that I've been stopped a couple of times by the local police simply because
they wanted a closer look or to take a picture. That hasn't happened for a
while, so I guess they have gotten used to seeing it - other than the state
trooper who chased me down on the new Rt 44, grinned and sped off.

I've sensed a negative reaction a few times within my snotty town. Usually
older people that stare and have that disgusted look on their face. I am
not sure if it's the flag or the car itself that upsets them. They probably
don't know what it is or what the TV show or movie were all about.

From a race consideration, I've never had a negative comment or reaction
that I have noticed. There's a small, country store type gas station here
in town where they still pump the gas for you. The owner or operator is a
middle aged black gentleman and he thinks the car is the balls. When the
2005 "Dukes of Hazzard" movie was about to be released there was a big flap
about if the car would have the flag or not because some claimed it was a
symbol of racism and/or bigotry. The flag remained on the movie cars and
nobody but a few got their underwear in a bunch.
