Sorry to here of Steve's passing,

But he did hang around with the deadliest of creatures, sort of like
they were house pets.

I figured something would happen to him sooner or later.

still sad though....

Crikey!!!

How very sad. I really liked the guy's shows and his personality. I
always figured one of those damned snakes would get him.

Haven't seen that character much in the last year or two after his 'baby
incident'. We now see an Australian stocky, bearded, barefoot guy who
does the same type of stuff.

It is sad. He and his wife obviously loved what they did and made major
contributions to the public's knowledge of wildlife in a very entertaining
way.

I've always enjoyed watching his show and his sense of humor.

NBC did what I thought was something in extremely poor taste on the day
after his death: they ran the full interview with him being interviewed
by Matt Lauer where Lauer was berating him for feeding crocks with his
baby "Bob" wrapped around his other arm. You may disagree with that,
but to show the entire 5 minute interview after the guy just died?

Another thing...They barely mentioned the millions of his own cash he
donated to wildlife causes worldwide. Not just where the media would
notice, but everywhere. He will be missed, the crocs have lost possibly
their last worthy foe.

Very, very insensitive. NBC blows. That was completely tasteless.

Apparently, these sting rays are quite large and have a barb that is
fairly spectacular in both length and ability to penetrate. According
to the news, he swam up behind it and it whacked him.

One in a hundred shot.

I think it fair to say that while this type of death is rare, that Steve
Irwin had a better chance of being killed by an animal in the long haul than
your average person. I found his on air personae annoying, but it kept the
kids attention better I guess. I know at his zoo, he was a saftey nazi
regarding animal handling procedures etc, and for all the false bravado, he
did use caution in his own dealings with the critters.
Real sad day for Austrailia and his wife and kids.... not to mention that he
was a "world figure" of sorts.

The thing that gets me is that he knew how to handle these critters,
and while telling you the dangers of these animals, bugs, snakes,
whatever....unfortunately made it look so easy.

I wonder how many kids thought if he could do it, they could too, and
got bit or stung, chomped, or chewed on and ended up in an ER or
morgue....

He knew how to handle reptiles.... I think fish behavior is a little ouside
his usual forte. He did make it all look too easy. Steve Irwin killed by
what we consider a "cute" type of fish?? Strange world.
