It is not just a boy/girl thing. Public schools want to dumb everyone
down to the level of the insipid assholes who run the public school
system. If some kid does start to show creativity or finds themselves
bored with this dull gray regimen they immediately get labelled ADD
and get drugged into submission.
That's not true at all.
I think where pubic schools have lost their way is that they are
required to develop and expand beyond their basic task - teaching
readin', writin' and 'rithmatic. We've got music, sports, class about
diversity, class about health, class about everything else except what
we should be teaching them.
The simple truth is that we're trying to make 5,6,7,8th graders into
mini-adults instead of just letting them be kids and allowing them to
learn what they need to learn.
When you and I were in school, we had the readin', writin' and 'rithmatic
plus gym, and music and shop. And Health Ed. at least one semester. And if
you failed to get the program, you got to repeat the next year. Now, we
have closed almost all shop classes and fail to hold anybody back. Parents
sue if the kid is held back, and without shop classes, 40% of the kids get
out of school knowing little about anything. Lots drop out. The
administrators in the late 60's decided everyone should go to college to
learn a career, and that is totally wrong! Now you have bored kids, that do
not pay attention, and you can not discipline as their self esteem will be
hurt. So they drop out of school, with no marketable skills.
