I believe the keel rollers are just to prevent your boat from hitting
the trailer while loading and to assist with the loading. It is ok for boats to be supported 100% by the bunks and bunks provide better support than rollers. For best support make sure your boat is positioned so that the edge of the transom is at the end of the bunks. It is better not to have your transom hanging off the end of the bunks. From what I've read, long term storage of a boat on a trailer with rollers that are not adjusted properly can cause a "hook" to develop in the transom area. I've got a Scout on a roller trailer and I adjusted the rear sets of rollers so the edge of the transom sits right over the middle of the back roller wheel. Eisboch |

Except when it's a sailboat and the weight is more centered on the keel. |

Thank you for clearing this up James. I was concerned as none of the keel is supported by the keel rollers on the trailer. |

What's wrong with bunks? They support the boat better than rollers. I did not articulate the possible problem correctly. When on the trailer the boat sits only on the 4 bunks. The keel sits several inches higher than the center rollers and is therefore not supported in anyway by those rollers. Shouldn't the keel be supported on the trailer center rollers while the bottom hull also sits on the bunks, or is it OK just for the bunks to support the boat? Jim, I don't know for your boat, but my trailerboat sits only on the bunks and I can't recall that the trailer even has keel rollers. H. JamesGang expressed the same opinion. Thanks to both of you for clearing this up for me. ;-) |

The keel rests only on the forward and stern rollers--there is a keel roller amidships that appears to be there for loading and unloading, not for support. My gut reaction to your question is that, if the trailer was sold with the boat by a reputable dealer as the appropriate trailer for your boat, not to worry. -- Blogging from Pine View Farm--http://frankwbell.no-ip.info/weblog Updates daily.
