Trying to figure out the point of multi-minute shots over the stern
rail.

Dinghy says CA something. Maybe that explains it? :-)

Chuck;
It's not meant to be great video. I was wandering around Youtube
watching some really bad video ("Approaching Howland's Landing" was the
title). But it was better than reading the same old political mud
slinging and other pointless things that I'm tired of seeing.

I thought, "Why not?" and posted some video to youtube. I like watching
my boat going through the water. I like listening to the bow wave and
my parrot squawking. I like watching dolphin surf the bow wave. I love
watching my parrot sway in rhythm with the toys in his cage and the
movements of the boat.

When I hear people say "How long does it take to get there?" I'm amazed.
It's the journey. Sometimes I throttle back and go slower. When I
get in I often wish it took longer to "get there."

I think the boat looks like it's hauling ass in those videos. I have a
tape from a Transpac race I was on and I love watching the boat surf
down the waves. I LOVE watching that.

So, if you don't like them, that's ok with me. Don't watch them. I'm
sure there are lots of posts that you may like better.

Post some video, it's easy to do and maybe you can do better.

Harry posted some photos. I like them, they are on topic. They are of
BOATS. He closes out with, "And now, back to our regularly scheduled
right-wing nincompoops and assorted netcops."

Well said Harry.

As for the reference to the registration on the dinghy, I don't see your
point.

Jim

Serenity...there's something to be said for it. I enjoyed watching the
video.

A video, or a even a photo, should tell a story. I didn't say I didn't
like the video, but the same image would have been equally effective as
a still photo. You expect something to happen in a video- a conflict to
emerge and be resolved.

As for hauling ass, I guess it's all relative. Looks like a 36-38 foot
trawler that is probably making 8-9 knots.

My idea of a video would be maybe a shot of the wake over the stern
rail, some views of various points or landmarks enroute (or perhaps
other vessels encountered) and ultimately an end to the journey.

My comments weren't intended to reflect on you personally.

I took "Art Appreciation" in college. I didn't understand a lot of what
I was exposed to, but I did learn that just because I don't "see the
point" that might be my failing, everyone sees creative things differently.

Trying to tell a story in a video is an art. A skill to be acquired. I
am telling a story, but a very short one, and I understand it.

I'd like to see more video clips here. If some tell a story, that would
be a good thing. Even if I don't understand the point, I'd like to see
them anyway.

I disagree about a single photo being "equally effective" as a video clip.

Make one. I won't tell you what you should have done.

You also must have learned that not everybody appreciates the same art
or artists.
One observer's subjective opinion is as valid as the next observer's
subjective opinion.

I missed the point, initially, where you said that you made this video.
Sorry.
