Darwinism

The problem with Darwinism is that it will only prove effective as a
means for improving human intelligence if it is allowed to work without
intervention........ :-)

COAST GUARD RESCUES MAN STRANDED BY HIGH TIDE (,,,,,,,DUH!)

SEATTLE - A man trapped on rocks by an incoming tide is safe after
being rescued Thursday evening near Abby Island, Wash.

The Coast Guard received a call from a park ranger reporting that a man
was stranded on the rocks at the Olympic National Park at 6 p.m.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles,
Wash., was launched to assist the man.

The man was safely hoisted off the rocks at 6:30 p.m. and transfered to
park rangers on the beach.

The Coast Guard reminds beachgoers that incoming tides can isolate
rocks from headlands and the shore. People should not climb on rocks
and cliffs as they are extremely dangerous. Individuals should also be
aware of local tide and weather conditions before heading to the beach.

Northwest beaches, contact the Coast Guard at (206) 220-7237.

Darwin Award: Duct Tape
24 April 2000, Oregon

A misplaced faith in the miracle of duct tape led to the demise of a
man boating on the Columbia River. Duct tape has a reputation for
fixing any problem. Steven and a friend were fishing in a twelve-foot
aluminum boat held together with multiple duct tape repairs, including
the motor mount. Suddenly they encountered rough water and Steven stood
up in the boat. The overtaxed duct tape gave way, and the vessel, rated
to hold 200 pounds, capsized and tossed the two men and their 640
pounds of equipment into the water. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued the
surviving companion the next morning, but Steven was not so lucky. He
was found dead in an ill-fitting life jacket. Perhaps if he had duct
taped it in place, he would still be sailing the river in his rickety
dinghy, instead of holding a Darwin Award.
