60's 33hp Evinrude SkiTwin wont start. - Carb Questions
Thank You Trainfan1 ! .. See below.. trainfan1 wrote: wrote: SNIP Upper - low speed needle - idle initial setting is 1.25 turns open. Set it to 1.25 turns and put the knob back on 1/2 way between rich and lean. Ran, but ran real rich/rough. Set it to 1.0 turns open w/knob dead center and have reliable low idle after tweaking the knob towards the lean side. Lower - high speed needle- initial setting is 3/4 turns open. Again, found this to be on the rich side. When I rev it up it chugs out as if the carb was flooding. Backed off the screw to 1/2 open and the knob dead center and I can rev it up better after tweaking the knob all the way to the lean end. I'll toy with that more tomorrow. Question: Are the High Speed and Low Speed settings linked in any way or completely independant of each other? Does tweaking the high speed screw affect the flow to the low speed side? Question:In terms of throttle travel, when am I using the low speed setting and/or the high speed end? Start position is appx %50 throttle. Which "side" am I using? Low or High? I suppose it doesn't matter once I have the high side behaving properly, but I'm curious. Thanks again for the support Rob/Trainfan1. I'm alost there now. I know them for my tractor carb (all the way closed then 1.5 turns out) but not this one. My fault for careless disassembly. Q: Engine has J6C plugs in it. Previous post calls for J4C and engine spec calls for J4N. What SHOULD be in there? J4C is the new designation for the J4J/J4N. It has a copper core. Rob |
