Is there a chance that a switch gets engaged when you raise your stern drive
to the trailering position so it will not start?

Sorry for the vague question, but I get no spark at the points, pugs, or
coil when the engine is fully raised, although it turns over just fine.

Make any sense at all?

Really? well, I'm not a boat expert per-se, but any of the 17-18 ft
type boats I've seen with I/O Merc Alpha stern drives don't have this.
What type of stern drive do you have, and how big a motor (and boat)

Yeah, in a way, it does. Sure seems like that that is the case
since moving the outdrive up doesn't flex any ignition parts.
Could it be that raising the outdrive changes the fluid level,
and maybe a fluid level sensor is cutting out the ignition ?
And what is the background ? - how old is the boat, how
long have you had it, and has it done this last year? Got any
manuals with the boat?
