STP
Used it when I was young to increase oil pressure in worn out VW engines. I
wonder what STP is made of? I'm thinking just thick oil. " JimH" jimhUNDERSCOREosudad@yahooDOTcom wrote in message . .. 3 little letters got your attention. Been around forever. ;-) http://www.stp.com/rd.html When was the first time you used it? |

If I had to venture a guess, it probably was somewhere around 1959 or thereabouts when I learned how to drive on a 1/4 mile dirt track in Franklin WI built around an old junkyard. Old Hudson Hornet of all things - used to drive it around that track full tilt. Learned a lot about engines, tires and transmissions when I was 13, I'll tell you what. One of the best commercials ever made was Andy Granatelli and the sumo wrestler trying to hold onto the STP coated screwdriver. Richard Petty once said that he and his racing family owed their fortunes to Andy and I believe it. The whole Andretti family too. Scientifically Treated Petroleum - STP. An American success story. I worked with Andy's nephew in the 1980's and heard some pretty amazing stories (all positive) about Andy. To side step................Famous products from my time.............. I remember Baby Moon hubcaps were the big thing and if you were into customizing, solenoid operated and reverse "suicide" doors were all the rage. Back then, fabrication of special body parts was all the rage. I learned how to form a fender on a hammer press and that Hudson Hornet looked pretty cool by the time I finally wrecked it. :) Spark plug wired into the tailpipe......get going, shut off the ignition, get lots of unburned fuel/air mixture into the pipes, fire the plug in the tailpipe and watch the fire come out the back! |

Here's the saga of an actual STP user. :-) http://nowwhat.cog7.org/Articles/Bre...nCrimeWay.html (makes any of the rest of us, regardless how wacked out, appear absolutely normal) ******************** Now, as far as STP for engines goes- oil additives are probably bad news on a boat. If your engine gets so weak that it won't run properly without mixing a bunch of 90-wt in the crankcase you probably shouldn't leave the dock. When you car breaks down, you can get out and walk. If you can "get out and walk" when your boat breaks down, you don't need to buy your miracle cures in a bottle. :-) |

Hey, Jim, how about that $5000 charity bet I offered you? Remember? The one where I'll prove my identity? If you are so sure I'm Kevin, why not go for it? I see it didn't take you long to get back to your childish name calling. Why not, no one here will have anything to do with you after your latest month long rant. Your cries for attention now fall on deaf ears, even Fritz won't have anything to do with you! |

Jim, I remember when that kind of stuff became a rage in the 60's. and
everybody seemed the need to try it, even though they would probably never see any results of it makeing your car get better fuel milage, or engines lasting any longer. I put it in my car a couple times, because it was recomended by Andy's commercials. I never knew if it did any good or not. I used it some in my first car, a second wore out hand-me-down 63 Impala rust bucket Which changed its oil on its own. whether on the street, or through the exhaust.... Used it to coat engine parts before reassembly after overhaul. Idea was to
prevent any scuffing opon initial engine start up. These were pretty hi tech close tolerance race engines (for their day) and the stuff never seemed to harm them. Have no idea if it helped but "feel" as though it probably did. We did change the oil after the engine's initial test runs of a few minutes and would not have considered using it for racing.
