Yes, my EL groups continues to work... at least most of the time. I had a
little difficulty earlier this AM but it was working again in a few minutes. I've been with EL for only a few years but am becoming quickly disenchanted. I use dialup and too often get a slower than 53K connection. That, combined with the groups fiasco has me considering a change. Any recommendations? The only other ISP I've used was AOL which became a total disaster, IMO, back when I switched. BTW, they continue to owe me a couple of bucks in refund $. Not enough for me to make a major issue of it but it certainly reflects the corporate ethics at AOL. Butch Davis "Jim" wrote in message k.net... "RCE" wrote in message ... You will get 5-7kbs with a good dialup connection, 175-250kbs with DSL and 3000-6000kbs with cable. I am on Comcast, and my speed checks are always over 6000 kbs. The Internet is completely different on broadband. -- Reggie That's my story and I am sticking to it. |

I think both of you are close enough to Pasadena to make it work. Don't expect any ISP to give decent USENET service. Check out usenet-access.com or some other news service for reliable service.. Gene, Comcast gave up handling UseNet and contracted their UseNet access out to giganews. Their service is FANTASTIC and you get 2 GB of downloads per month for free. If you need more you can pay for the service from giganews. As you can tell, I am very very pleased with Comcast as a ISP and Cable provider. -- Reggie That's my story and I am sticking to it. |

I hope your Vonage is working out OK. I finally had to dump them for poor service... actually NO service. Trying to get unhooked from that bunch of idiots was a real experience. Gene, I have had a few minor problems with getting the telephone modem sync'ed up with Comcast. This had to do with setting up new computers, or after a power failure. It is realitively easy, painless and fast to do as long as you have a cell phone to call Vonage. I have had to reboot the telephone modem (pull the plug out for 30 secs) a few times after power failures, same as I have to do with my cable modem, but I would rate the quality of telephone service itself a A-, the quality of Customer Service a B+ to a A+ depending upon the rep. I was talking to. I would rate BellSouth's service quality a A, and customer service a D to B. Vonage offered a total package at considerably cost savings over BellSouth, but the real reason is I wanted to give BellSouth some competition. I would never recommend Vonage, or any Internet Telephone service, to someone who was not comfortable setting up their computer (ie my mother in law), but it is a winner in my book. The kiss of death with BellSouth was their attitudes when I contacted them to disconnect the service. They were a real pain in the ass, and highlighted the reason ALL corporations need strong viable competitors to keep them at their best. BellSouth has always reminded me of the DMV, they were the one game in town, and they knew it, so customer service or flexibility was not a priority. Clark Howard (a radio consumer advocate) has had a number of callers call in about Vonage and the other Internet Telephone Companies, and the general consensus is they are good strong competitors to MaBell local service. There are very few callers who have left Vonage to go back to MaBell. All of his staff have left MaBell and all of them are very comfortable with their new telephone services. -- Reggie That's my story and I am sticking to it. |

After a few jitters with SunRocket, I've cancelled my normal telephone service (Verizon). Now I'm paying SunRocket $199 per *year* and get more than what I got with Verizon. I recently plugged the SunRocket adapter into a wall telephone jack and it powers all the jacks in the house. Of course, I unplugged the Verizon line outside the house. I use Cox Cable for my ISP, and I upgraded the speed so I'm getting about 18 Mbps download and about 1.7Mbps upload. For a little over $16 per month I can put up with an occasional echo. When I have a problem with outage, which has happened only once recently, repowering the modem and the adapter has solved the problem. -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |

I've been watching SunRocket, but they don't serve either number I would like to port. 18 Mbps download? Yeah... I think that was a typo. According to their website it would take an optical connect to get over 15 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Today it was only a little over 15Mbps. Look 'over there' for 'Speedtest'. Yesterday it was as I posted. I'll admit I'm paying an extra $15 a month for the higher speed! -- John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |
