Eliminate the quick disconnect on fuel line?

from a built in tank (hose the size of your thumb) instead of that
skinny hose you get with portable cans. It puts a strain on the
fitting and eventally it loosens up. I am thinking about just swapping
the whole mess out for a double ended hose barb. I did this on my 75
and it worked great. If you take out the existing fitting there is a
hole that is a nice fit for a long "hex" shank barb (at least that was
the way my merc 75 was). It clamped solidly in there with the existing
retainer.
What is the downside?

I think that I'd have a threaded fitting of some sort on the motor,
just so you could easily detach the fuel line if needed. Sometimes
those barbed fittings can tear up the end of the fuel line if you need
to take it off after it's been on a long time.
