Any ideas? The title places in ohio have absolutely no idea what i need to do,one told me i need an ohio title for it,another told me an out of state resident cant have an ohio title. They are complete morons it seems in this area. Thanks for any info you ucan provide. I boat on Lake Erie and live in Ohio. If the State of Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles cannot help you out with a straight answer I would just run with your existing registration. If stopped just have the registration paper available and tell them you are only here for the week. We see plenty of boats with out of state registration numbers here on Lake Erie. I don't know why the CG or local police would single you out just because you showed a GA registration on your boat. If you want I can call the DMV and Cleveland office of the USCG for you tomorrow to get a straight answer. Just let me know if you want me to. ;-) 1/3 of the way down the page. http://www.ohiodnr.com/watercraft/opsguide/ohiovr1.htm Numbering of Watercraft (ORC 1547.53) Every watercraft operated on Ohio water shall be numbered by this state or in compliance with their own state numbering system and shall properly display the assigned number. Watercraft exempt from Ohio numbering are those: * documented by the United States Coast Guard; * numbered by another state and not used in this state for more than 60 days; * from a country other than the United States temporarily using Ohio water; * owned by the United States, a state or political subdivision; * a ship's lifeboat. A "lifeboat" is held aboard another vessel and used exclusively for emergency purposes; * exempted by the chief of the Division of Watercraft; * under a waiver issued for a race or special event; * canoes, rowboats, and inflatable watercraft that are registered under section 1547.54 of the Revised Code (Alternative Registrations, below) and that an owner chooses not to have numbered. Just go to non-Ohioian waters ever 60 days or tow the boat accross state lines and fill up the gas tank while out of state. |

I want to use the boat here until october when the season ends. Unless you are leaving it in a marina, if you ever do get stopped, unless you admit to being there for the summer, I doubt they will even raise an eyebrow. What part of Ohio will you be in? "P. We live in MICHIGAN ,have kept our boat in OHIO for many years, it is
Michigan registered. The marina where we keep her has 1350 slips, boats registrated from many states and have never heard of a problem. Just be sure your paper work is in order for the state of registration. |
