Comsumer Reports doesn't usually advise buying extended warranties for
cars, electronics etc. and I'm sure thay'd agree with your dealer friend.

Sold appliances for 25 years and the dealer hammered us hard if we didn't
make our quota in extended warranties. For every $10 we took in, less than
$1 was spent honoring the warranty.. I would think that $2200 would be a
nice down payment on that new engine when the time comes.
