Folks: Was hoping someone might be able to help us with a warning from
my dad's new boat since the dealer is criminally uninterested in anything (and has sold him a boat with a radio that doesn't work, among other things). In any event, the situation is: a brand-new 22 foot center console powered by a 150-hp Yamaha 4-stroke outboard. We were on the second brief test run, and the rpms were below 2000. We opened it up a bit, no higher than half throttle, and we activiated the trim tabs. At that point the overheat warning alarm came on and we throttled down. We're not sure at all what might be causing this -- the cool water inlet seems to be working fine and the warning didn't come back -- but we didn't increase the throttle again. I know we need to check the inlet to see if it's clogged but wouldn't it be clogged all the time and not just at certain RPM? Anyway, was hoping someone might have some thoughts. Thanks for your time! John Tracey Summit, NJ |
