Default Will they have to pay as much as Exxon?

Congrats to the locals who saved the passengers of a BC ferry sinking.

Yes... a super response from the native fishermen in that area.

Last major disaster around here had much darker results, although local
fishermen were also among the first out searching.
That was the Swissair flight 111...no survivors.

Do you think they SHOULD pay as much as Exxon? Why do you even ask?
There are very little similarities in the two accidents. Most of what
Exxon paid was for the clean up, which they should be accountable for.

Why was not Alaska held liable for part of the cleanup? They assessed a per
barrel cleanup equipmen charge for every barrel shipped. No euipment was
ever purchased, the money was siphoned off by the state. The disaster was
much larger because of state action. As to the clean up costs, there were
also assessements by the state for lots of other things. Same should go for
a ferryboat that runs on to a known rock, and ignore the fact it is owned by
the state.
