Default New Boat

I'm thinking of trading up. I currently have a 18.5' Reinell, and need
(want) a bigger boat for the fam. I'm intrigued by Yamaha's twin engine jet
drive boats (SR230). I like the open area in the stern, and the performance
numbers I see. The price is attractive as well. Keep in mind that this is a
family boat, and my kids are 6 and 3 so tubing is about as extreme as we
plan to get for a while.

Does anyone have thoughts either way on this boat, or jet drive boats in
general?

Thanks.

I have a jet drive boat and love it. But no way would I buy a Yamaha jet
boat, let alone a dual engine one! The fuel consumption alone will stop you
from enjoying the boat much. If you are worried about the purchase price,
figure in the cost of fuel for a dual engine jet. For that kind of money
you could buy an aluminum jetboat. Boulton or www.roguejet.com Powered
with a 350 cid engine and 1/2 or less of the fuel usage. And for most
things in the lake where you are not running skinny water, a glass boat with
outboard or I/O is a much better price.

Default New Boat

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply. Fuel consumption isn't too much of a worry since we're
pretty light boat users...maybe 2 times per month march-september. I
probably used 4 tanks last season. I'm looking for something that's
roomy...larger than my Reinell, with decent performance.

The roguejet boats seem nice, but not real flashy as far as interiors go.
The interior is a wife criteria I love my I/O, but can't seem to find
something in the 23' range (new) for less than 30Gs. I can get an '05 Yamaha
out the door for 27. I liked the idea of 2 engines to kind of bridge the gap
between an inboard and an I/O as far as low speed maneuvering
goes...especially in reverse. Does that make any sense? I'm not a buyer
yet...that's why I'm asking you guys.
