I'm thinking of trading up. I currently have a 18.5' Reinell, and need
(want) a bigger boat for the fam. I'm intrigued by Yamaha's twin engine
jet drive boats (SR230). I like the open area in the stern, and the
performance numbers I see. The price is attractive as well. Keep in mind
that this is a family boat, and my kids are 6 and 3 so tubing is about as
extreme as we plan to get for a while.
Does anyone have thoughts either way on this boat, or jet drive boats in
general?
Thanks.

I have a jet drive boat and love it. But no way would I buy a Yamaha jet
boat, let alone a dual engine one! The fuel consumption alone will stop you
from enjoying the boat much. If you are worried about the purchase price,
figure in the cost of fuel for a dual engine jet. For that kind of money
you could buy an aluminum jetboat. Boulton or

with a 350 cid engine and 1/2 or less of the fuel usage. And for most
things in the lake where you are not running skinny water, a glass boat with
outboard or I/O is a much better price.
