We are lurking, ignoring all the spam, and waiting for good sailing stories,
such as:

We left Mykinos at a very civilized hour, after breakfast, and set the main
and unrolled the jib for the downwind run to Paros. Perhaps if we would have
left early, we could have avoided the meltimi winds, which were fairly
hooting as we cleared the lee of the big island. The helmsman took the
arranged compass heading, and the navigator spooled up the GPS (which took
some time, as the little unit had to figure out in which hemisphere it was
currently located).
The waves began to get respectable, as the fetch increased, but we kept the
course steady, DDW (dead downwind), careful not to steer 'by the lee', as we
didn't want to buy Moorings any new equipment for Arethoussa, their
beautiful Jeaneau 43. The helmsman commented that we needed a spinnaker, as
the boat would catch a wave, and just as it was beginning to surf, it would
slow, and fall off, as the wave rolled under us. Since we didn't have anyone
brave enough to go forward and set the little asymetrical chute, nor a pole
that would hold the clew out; we started the engine and used the engines
power to stay on the waves and ride them, for a couple seconds each, to
Paros.
Soon enough, we saw the island, and as we approached, the pillars that
marked the harbor, but not the entrance, which was around a long jetty. The
swell tossed us a bit as we gybed on to port, rolled up the genny, and
sailed into the harbor under main alone. Luffing up, we put away the
mainsail smartly, and selected a good mooring. There is no feeling like the
calm you feel entering a safe harbor after being upon the sea in a breeze!
