"Reggie Smithers" wrote in message ... If you prefer to respond and show your disgust with that kind of behavior feel free, this is a non moderated NG. Also know that that is exactly what they want, and your response will be responsible for numerous other posts of the same kind. This is not my opinion, it is the opinion of 100% of the UseNet Experts. You will not be able to find 1 UseNet Expert who would recommend responding to an obvious troll. -- Reggie Skipper's not your average troll. He often has exhibited a level of above average intelligence in some of his posts and has occasionally contributed some interesting POVs on subjects kicked around here. Unfortunately, he has a dark side, probably a result of his early years of social conditioning that spoils an otherwise potentially decent person. His bigoted themes are usually carefully veiled so, taken by themselves can be subject to interpretation, thus the "trolling" aspect of his posts. Over time however a trend emerges and there is no longer any doubt as to his intent. His latest offering was not his best effort ... it left no room for interpretation. RCE There is a small minority who seem to have one goal, to drag this group into the gutter. I think it's the majority that reject your monitoring Skippy. I never proffered being the monitor, Don. I did suggest a committee of *NG elected* monitors to restore the NG to its previously interesting open and far more civil format. We would *all* decide just what that format would be in the month of discussion and voting on the charter. I suspect the end result would be far less political and flame throwing threads. Suspect I'd have a far easier time abiding by a responsible NG charter than you would, however. Some of us would find ourselves severely challenged if we primarily discussed boats 'n boating, eh, Don? -- Skipper |

Some of us would find ourselves severely challenged if we primarily discussed boats 'n boating, eh, Don? Skipper, Chuck posted a challenge that many of us accepted and have tried to maintain. A few have decided they'd rather sling mud. Is rec.boats.cruising a 'monitored' group? I think not. Yet they manage quite well. Why? How often do you see a political/religious thread over there? How often do you see a political/religious thread here that doesn't become a name-calling free-for-all. Monitor yourself. Urge others to monitor themselves. -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |

The only hope for alt.sailing.asa and this NG is democratic monitoring. Monitors who allow off-topic, differing views and lively discussions, but keep it within bounds. I think we all know when it goes to far. Sans monitors, there's just no reasonable way to bring it back from the small-minded off-topic chatroom and flamefest it has become. -- Skipper |

I made no mention of alt.sailing.asa. Never been there. I mentioned rec.boats.cruising. You've been there. It's not monitored. It doesn't suffer the problems of this group. Why? We have a small minority of posters who are trollers. We have a small minority of posters who can't resist getting hooked. -- 'Til next time, John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** |
