Tred Barta's new boat...sunk?
It would be interesting to know what he hit, and under what conditions
(fog, in the dark, clear conditions). I've seen lots of sutff floatng out there. I was on a 58 Viking that clobbered a submerged boat about 1/4 mile outside of Nantucket harbor one morning while running at over 25 knots. It didn't do anything to the Viking, but it threw me from one end of the cockpit to the other. And that nice fresh cup of hot tea I was about to enjoy, I ended up wearing it. It shook us up, it was a wake up call to say the least. I met Tred many years ago at the USATT, he's a character to say the least, and he's pushed his luck before (I beleave he ran one of his old boats right up on the beach in the fog). Nice guy or not, I wouldn't wish such an experiance on my worst enemy. I can remember a few of my own "little adventures" that could have gone the wrong way, we all have them. Lets hope the worst of them are behind us all, including Tred. |
