Yes. It also says a lot for an an EPIRB with integral GPS and
registered boat ID. Hope I never have to use it but I'm glad we have
one. It appears the CG found him OK so perhaps the actual audio was
clearer than the recording.


Ditto here. Hated spending the bucks, but it's nice to know you have it.
Which reminds me. They are supposed to be serviced every so often and I
haven't done that. Add it to the list for next year. Which brings up
another subject. Life rafts. I installed a six person raft but because I
don't charter the boat I've not had it tested or repacked. It's about three
years old now I think. Add another item to the list.

It's definitely due after three years, usually required every year for
inspected boats. We bought a new one last spring since my old one had
20+ years of hard sail boat racing on it. They offered an option for
vacuum bagging in a hermetically sealed package which supposedly
extends the recommended repack interval to three or four years.
