Why don't you just use the built in battery, and then recharge it when you
get home from your day of boating?

Smithers, laptop batteries may give you 3 hours or so of power. You would
need to plug it into a reliable power source when out boating.

Harry, I would think that you would be OK using the boat battery if you
never had problems using the car battery.

For $80 to $100 you can buy adaptors specially designed for auto and boats.
If my Notebook was new, I would probably buy it. If it was 3 to 4 yrs old,
I would assume the laptop is almost obsolete and say the money.

Just buy a $20 140 watt inverter and plug in the AC charger to the inverter.
Have used that for years with different laptops. No problems. Went this
way in about 1996 when it was $200+ for a 12 volt charger for the Dell
laptop.

Exactly. The notebook's battery charger will isolate any spikes and the
notebook's battery will compensate for any voltage drops.
