Default Johnson (1989) 30hp overheat problem

Re my earlier post on this subject - the sensor is now the main suspect,
the warning horn having gone off while the motor was still warming up.
Would it be harmful to disconnect the solid tan temperature switch lead
from the warning horn lead connector, providing the water pump indicator
is monitored for a steady flow?
Your advice appreciated
