Default El Cheapo GPS Receiver

Harry,
I thought you had a GPS unit on both your Lobster Boat and your Parker? Are
you planning on updating them? I also thought you had them already tied
into your on board laptop?

DeLorme has a special out on its 2006 edition of Street Atlas, and offers
a $100 USB GPS antenna for use in the car, or, I assume, for use in a boat
with some sort of NAV software on a laptop.

Has anyone tried one of these receivers with NAV software? The piece is
WAAS-enabled. Garmin has a slightly more expensive unit out. Seems to me
that if you have an older laptop you are retiring, a cheap GPS receiver
and the NAV software might be an interesting alternative to the smaller
screen GPS chartplotters. Assuming you have a cabin boat, that is.

Opinions?

Who has the best cheap NAV chart software these days?
