"Harry Krause" wrote in message ... Taliban down 2 Yank choppers WASHINGTON - Afghan insurgents downed two U.S. military choppers on Sunday, bringing the year's total to four, in what experts call the "Iraqization" of an escalating war with Al Qaeda and the Taliban. "Initial indications reveal that enemy fire caused two CH-47 Chinook helicopters involved in offensive operations in southern Afghanistan to make hard landings Sunday," military commanders said in a statement yesterday. One chopper forced down near Kandahar resulted in five injured U.S. troops. The second was hit about 50 miles north at Tarin Kowt, but limped to a base. Both choppers were flying over Taliban strongholds where fighting has raged this year. The shootdowns alarm Afghan analysts, who also are worried by an increase in roadside and suicide bombings this year, which have dwarfed 2004's total. "You are seeing the tactics from Iraq being transferred to Afghanistan," said ex-Defense Intelligence Agency analyst Julie Sirrs. "The \[enemy\] has had a resurgence this year." Suicide Bombing in Iraq Kills 30 Suicide Attack on Bus to Shiite Town Kills at Least 30 People and Wounds Nearly 40 The Associated Press BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt in a bus as it was about to depart Baghdad Thursday for a Shiite city in the south, killing up to 30 people and wounding nearly 40, police and hospital officials said. Most of the dead were in the bus, which was gutted by flames, and the rest were gathered around a food stall nearby, police said. The Kindi hospital said at least 37 were injured. The blast occurred a week before national elections, and officials had warned of a surge in violence ahead of the balloting. Several other explosions rumbled through the heart of the capital Thursday morning. Witnesses told police that the attacker left a car, boarded the bus and blew himself up as it was about to leave for Nasiriyah, 200 miles southeast of Baghdad, police Lt. Ali Mitaab said. Fire swept through the bus following the blast, trapping passengers. Their charred corpses remained in their seats, their faces starring out through the shattered windows. Police climbed over the top of the vehicle inspecting what remained of luggage. The attack occurred at the major bus station for vehicles headed to the mostly Shiite areas of the south. In August the station was the scene of a horrific triple car bombing which killed at least 43 people and wounded 89. Copyright 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Insurgents again, eh? They targeted civilians on a bus, and killed them with a suicide bomber. No Americans were killed. This isn't the act of insurgents. This is the act of foreign-born terrorists hellbent on seeing that Iraq doesn't turn into a stable democracy. Stories like this one only strengthens Bush's argument that Iraq is the frontline in the war on terror...and that we should never leave until the violence stops. |

Answer: You don't know. http://faculty.smu.edu/dsimon/Change%20--Cronkite.html http://faculty.smu.edu/dsimon/Change-Viet2.html The saddest part of Cronkite's remark was that even near the end. he and millions of other Americans thought South Vietnam was a "democracy." It wasn't, and Iraq isn't and won't be. Bush's statement the other day of what would constitute "victory" in Iraq has about as much chance of happening as the Victoria's Secret tour bus breaking down in front of my house. But the simple folk buy into it. Just ask NOYB. I'm content with 4 or 5 permanent bases in Iraq. What happens in the individual cities and towns is of no interest to me. |

NOYB, Most people would view Harry's cut and paste as "Doom and Gloom". Harry views his posts as "Jumping with Glee". Harry has stated anything bad for Bush is Good for America, and that makes him happy, so when he posts his negative articles, including the death toll on US armed forces, he really is Jumping with Glee. When terrorists bomb a bus of civilians, he somehow thinks that that is bad for Bush. But it actually increases Bush's resolve, and convinces the average American that Bush is right about Iraq being the frontline in the war on terror...and that we can never leave, lest the terrorists come here. I keep asking you this, but you don't seem to have an answer. What makes you think terrorists are likely to originate in Iraq? I'm referring to the type who'd want to do something here in the mainland U.S. They're not likely to originate in Iraq. In fact, most sources confirm that the majority of the suicide bombers are from neighboring countries. Every suicide bomber who floods into Iraq to blow himself up, is one less suicide bomber who will be available to blow himself up in Israel, Europe, or the United States. I see. So, you don't think we'll have any home grown ones, as was the case in England. Hint: You are not permitted to say "Maybe, but our presence in Iraq cuts off the supply of exported hate". (Some moron here said that - might've been Fruitz or Bertie Ribbons.) I want to oust all of the governments in the Muslim world (not just Iraq) that allow anti-Americanism to be taught in madrassas, and financed by money collected through mosques. They're exporting that hatred around the world...and without the supply of money and manpower flooding into the West, those hate groups in England will shrivel up and die. OK....let me get two things straight: 1) A Muslim person in Milwaukee cannot form opinions without help from someone in a bad country. He can form an opinion, but what can he do about it without money, funding, and other support from other like-minded individuals halfway around the globe. The Patriot Act is terrific in ensuring that hate groups (Islamic, white supremacist, or otherwise) can no longer fundraise and organize with impunity. 2) That person in Milwaukee may have a job, but the money he makes is different than money which might be given to him by a bad person from another country, and cannot be used to buy explosives. Buy them from whom? If it were so easy for radical Islamic terrorists to do in the USA what they're doing in Iraq and Israel, they'd be doing it already. |

A lone bomber does not need funding or organization of any kind. He can learn anything he needs via email, encrypted in ways that even the NSA will have difficulty with. A bomber could build a device using supplies obtained legally at any well stocked gun shop. It would be crude compared to the stuff being used in the Middle East, but he could still raise hell on a train or bus. |

Is NOYB maintaining it is difficult to obtain or home-manfucture enough explosives to take down a huge building or blow up a subway train in this country? Hmmmm. Let's see. Explosive gunpowder. We need: * Saltpeter (Niter) * Sulfur * Charcoal or Sugar * Water The ratio is 75% saltpeter, 15% sulfur, 10 per cent charcoal. Carefully and separately grind the three ingredients and mix them together to make what is known as serpentine. Add a bit of water to reduce dusting and hazard and make a slurry. Force the slurry through a screen to make pellets and allow pellets to dry. Even a dentist could mix up this brew. Do you have any idea how much gunpowder you'd have to sneak on to a bus to blow up the bus, and ensure that you were killed in the process...rather than just left severely maimed? And if you're a Middle Eastern-looking dude, there's the little problem of trying to light the fuse on a crowded bus while preventing some suspicious individual who has been eyeing you all along from stomping your head in the minute you take out the lighter. |

Fuse??? I was at the range last night. I do not recall having to light a fuse to fire my gun. My son has an Estes rocket. No fuse there, either. It uses a couple of batteries in a remote control box. |

Oh, please, you're missing the point entirely. It can be done, and easily. Timothy McVeigh blew up a huge federal office building with homebrew explosives. Pull up in your van next to a packed bus in rush hour, and ka-boom. Don't be so damned naive. Know a bit more about chemistry? You should. Try this in your dental lab: Get yourself cyclotrimethylene-trinitramine (C3H6N6O6), commonly called RDX (for "research development explosive"). The additive material is made up of polyisobutylene, the binder, and di(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate, the plasticizer (the element that makes the material malleable). It also contains a small amount of motor oil. Take RDX in powder form and mix it with water to form a slurry. Add the binder material, dissolved in a solvent, and mix the materials with an agitator. Remove the solvent through distillation, and remove the water through drying and filtering. The result is a relatively stable, solid explosive with a consistency similar to modelling clay. An electrical detonator or blasting cap will set it off. Any dentist could do this. Oh, and this formula is no secret. It's available on "How Stuff Works." Enjoy your naivete. Perhaps while I'm in Home Depot picking up those ingredients, they'll have some weapons grade uranium available too, eh? |

The answers are simple; enforce existing laws and punish employers who hire illegals, high tariffs for imported manufactured goods, imposing excess profits taxes on oil companies, and backing strong conservatives for elective office.
