Chuck,

I believe I saw a post in the Whaler Forum where you said you were getting a
Garmin 198C??? I've been trying to find any owner/user reviews on the unit
but have failed. Would you be so kind as to give me your take on the unit?

TIA.

Butch

Nope: I've got a Garmin 162 and am likely to keep it.

Are you running the Blue Chart in the 162? If so, how do you like it for
the area?

I have the blue charts loaded, but I usually keep them turned off because they
really slow down the screen updates when I'm zoomed way in trying to get
right over the anchorage for a dive site. When I'm on unfamiliar ground (not
often after 500+ days on the water here), I turn them on. There's very little
non-obvious in Monterey as long as you stay out of the kelp beds, which is
a good idea to keep the outboard from overheating.

I have a couple of standard routes programmed in and use those, esp.
when the fog comes down.

Thanks. I have the 162 and thought of buying the Blue charts, but being
cheap, I still use the paper ones.
