Some officers object to the practice. By Mark Mazzetti and Borzou Daragahi Times Staff Writers November 30, 2005 WASHINGTON - As part of an information offensive in Iraq, the U.S. military is secretly paying Iraqi newspapers to publish stories written by American troops in an effort to burnish the image of the U.S. mission in Iraq. So? More taxpayer dollars going to support presidummy's lies. Nope. It is being spent to tell the truth over what is really happening. If an Iraqi doesn't want to publish the truth without being paid to do so, why would they do it for money? The obvious answer is greed, but at least in theory, if they know the truth and withhold it, it's probably because of their political beliefs, right? If money can change those beliefs, we may be onto something: The right way to win this little war. (It's worked in the past) |
