Doug,
Is it silly to believe paying for bills from your left pocket (ie paying for
health care directly) or paying for healthcare from your right pocket (ie
paying for healthcare through increase in taxes) will lower your cost per
unit?

Doug,

Since the big 3 and their subsidiaries manufacture cars in Mexico,
Canada, Europe and Asia isn't your statement true for American Auto
Makers.

Do you honestly believe the solution to the higher cost for auto makers
is national health care? National Health Care might be a very viable
solution for Americans, but transferring the payments for health care
from one pocket to another pocket, will not make the cars cost any less.

NYOB,

Can you believe Harry thinks the US Toyota employees have national
healthcare? I wonder if they have to go to Tokyo for a doctor visit?

Did you see the movie "Gung-ho" with Michael Keaton? They have
mandatory fitness breaks. That's how they stay so damn healthy.

This is fascinating. You simpies believe there is no relationship
between Toyota's prices and profits on what it assembles here and
its manufacturing costs in Japan, which are subsidized in many ways by
the government there?

Toyota's workers here are covered by insurance Toyota provides here,
but that doesn't mean its profitability on what it "builds" here is not
impacted by its operations in Japan.

That's just plain dumb. My neighbor Delmar sez compnes in other countrys
aint sposed ta trade spit wit their branches here. It's like a rule or
sumthin.

Delmar's in the outhouse for now.

Are you saying that Toyota has no health care costs? Or, that they're vastly
different from those of GM, Ford, etc? If they're different, why is that so?

Thunder,
Our healthcare costs are out of control, I just am not convinced that a
National Health Care program will lower out costs, but at this point I
believe it will probably become a reality. Voters will become more inclined
to want national healthcare as current employees and retired employees lose
employer healthcare coverage, and turn towards National Healthcare Coverage.

Perhaps not national health care, but clearly our health costs put us at a
disadvantage. Our health care costs are 15% GDP. IIRC, no other nation
has costs over 10% GDP. There is no denying, those costs affect our
competitiveness internationally.

Toyota does have lower healthcare cost, due to very expensive programs set
up by Unions in the 80's, and the age of their employees.

I disagree, I doubt people will accecpt guvmint control and rationing of
health care in this country, especially after seeing the collapse of the
canadian and eu systems. What will happen however, (and is a good thing)
is the movement toward high deductibles combined with health savings
accounts. Since individuals will own the money in those accounts, they will
ration themselves WRT health care services. Restoring market economics to
healthcare will go a long way to solving the "health care crisis" Tort
reform will be the other major step.

You saw the "collapse" of the Canadian Health Care System? When did this
happen? Did I miss it? Well Mr. Fritz, let me tell you something...You
have no idea what the hell you are talking about! The Health Care System
in Canada works just fine. I took my Dad to see his doctor this morning
and my Dad was given a prescription for some medication which I picked up
for him on the way to his Condo. No charges for the visit to the doctor.
No charges for the medication. As my Dad is a veteran, he is also gets
free bus rides anywhere is our region. He gets subsidized taxi service in
the region. He gets free housekeeping services. All of these services
are working for him today. Where is the collapse you mentioned? I don't
see it.

Perhaps if you tell Paul about the huge Canadian budget deficits, he'd
feel better. Or, how Canada's life expectancy is much shorter than here
in the states. You know, lie to him. He'll feel better.
