So, Did Anyone Else Go Boating on Thanksgiving?
We just got back from a much anticipated long weekend away. The weather
has been awesome, caught some fish, and went kayaking. Will probably make the reservations for next year and start planning and dreaming. Hope all fellow boaters did or at least considered the same. |

Drove by the marina on Fri., it was skimmed with ice already......and there were still a couple of boats in the water. |
So, Did Anyone Else Go Boating on Thanksgiving?
I spent 3 hours on Thanksgiving Day, cleaning up the inside of my boat. I
removed all items I had in the storage areas under the seats and V-Berth. I wiped the carpet with Lysol Concentrated Cleaner to stop any mildew from growing. I sprayed the mouse fur headliner and the carpeting with the Lysol cleaner, I left the storage areas open and all the hatches and door open for the day to make sure it dried out. I cleaned the fridge with Baking Soda, and let the door open. I disassembled the head pump to make sure there was not any water still in the pump. I left it open for the winter. I will lube and reassemble next spring. The following day, I went back, made sure the carpet was dry and locked the hatch and door. Not as good as going boating, but it did get me away from my young nephews for a few hours. "DownTime" wrote in message . .. We just got back from a much anticipated long weekend away. You would not be invited back to my Thanksgiving party if you thought
working on your boat was more important than being with family and friends for the holiday. "Sir Rodney Smithers" Ask me about my knighthood. wrote in message ... JimH,
I enjoyed the break from my brother in laws, two loud kids, one with special needs (Prader Willi http://www.pwsausa.org/ ). I had been up since 6:30 helping my mother in law cook. She actually made my coffee, while I did the cooking. She had done her part the day before. We ate Thanksgiving Dinner at 12:00, sat around and chatted, and when it started to get hectic, I used my boat as an excuse to get away by myself. I am glad my wife and mother in law are completely understanding. My mother in law told me later, she wished she could have come with me. That might be why I think both of them are great. We spent Friday night anchored south of Pine Island, and on to Pelican Bay on the north end of Cayo Costa first thing on Saturday morning. Walked the beach and did some shell collecting with the admiral, enjoyed the sunset from the boat, and back to Cape Coral today. Saturday was absolutely perfect weather with temps in the low 80s and not a cloud in the sky. The beach at Cayo Costa was more crowded than normal however, maybe 40 or 50 people spread over 2 miles or so. Usually we have it almost to ourselves. We were mildly surprised by the number of boats out cruising this weekend. Pelican Bay was as busy as we've ever seen it, with maybe 30 boats there on Saturday night. |

We were over in West Palm for turkey but we got out on the water Saturday and today. The "birds" are back. Malfunction junction inside Big Carlos Pass was packed. We stayed back in the mangroves and missed most of the traffic. The tide was real low Saturday so it kept the riffraff in the channel. I did see a few folks stuff it in the mud trying to come over where we were. Ain't that "local knowledge" neat ;--) I took the new boat south on Friday towards Naples Bay, Keewaydin Island, Isles of Capri, Marco and Goodland. We tried to get lunch at the Snook Inn, but there wasn't a slip available...and there were 4 or 5 boats waiting for one to open. I ran towards Goodland, only to find Stan's still closed from Wilma damage. Ran back to Snook Inn...and still crowded. Ran to Backwater Nicks in Isles of Capri, and they're still closed from Wilma damage. Ran back up to Naples Bay, and got hung up in a foot and a half of water smack dab in the middle of the channel connecting Rookery Bay to the intracoastal that runs from Keewaydin to Naples Bay. It was dead low tide. Got out and pushed the stern to deeper water, and backed off the sandbar. That's the second time I've run aground in a boat down here in 6 years...but the first time that it happened in the middle of a channel. We finally made it to Naples Bay, fueled up at the city dock, and ate at the City Dock restaurant. Of course, all of the slips at the restaurant were full too...so I had to pay the harbor master $20 to park the boat at the end of one of the piers. So you're right...the snowbirds are back. I miss the summer months already. :-( It was the first long distance run that I made (except for transporting it down here from Tampa), and the boat ran great. We had 7 adults and my 3 kids on board, and there was plenty of room for everyone. |

No, I wish I could have, but it was waytoo cool (not cold) and breezy
for the lake I go to. Water gets pretty choppy, pretty easy. No, insteaded my family, as well as mom & dad and my brothers family of 6 invaded my little brothers house for a fantastic meal and wonderful time. I'm glad he can provide a place where we can wreck the house then leave. Justice I suppose, they all did it to our house for 10 years! If y'll did go boating, I'm sure it was fun...or should ahve been Tim |

I try to go fishing every Thanksgiving, but waited until Friday this year. Stripers didn't seem to be at the same place at the same time as I was, and it was pretty nippy out, so I didn't want to run up and down the lake looking for them, hence......skunked.... |

Our (central Ohio) ski club went skiing at dawn on January 1st, 1980 to win
a friendly bet against a fellow club, on who was going to be in the water first that year. There was about a 1/4-1/2 of ice on the reservoir, which we broke up first before skiing (ski boats are actually good ice breakers). We had a bathroom tub, which we filled with hot water to soak our wetsuits in before venturing out. I (like most) did a dock start and finish to stay out of the water, but some weren't so lucky...out of the 12 of us who skied, 3 or 4 took the "plunge". We won the bet...the other club had no clue what we were up to, until it was too late. Jim Carter "The Boat" Bayfield Moose hunting? Moose steaks? Really? Field dressing and carrying out a moose is a serious undertaking. It's not that tough a job. They are heavy and have to be taken out in pieces, of course. A big one can be up to around 500 kilos. We had to make 3 trips with the boat to get the meat and our gear out of the bush. A lot more trips if we had used the canoes instead of the aluminum boat. There are lots of good steaks and roasts when the moose is cut up for winter meals. Jim C. |

I can run in about 15" of water at idle so I do OK but folks with single hull boats are generally screwed if they ever fall off plane. What kind of cat do you run? |
