Just saw that Tropical Storm Gamma may be heading our way:

Will I even be able to get insurance tomorrow? I started the application
with BoatUS today, and they said to call tomorrow to activate it once the
deal is finalized. But that was before NOAA issued their latest report.

Ironically, the bank gave me the check today without getting verification of
insurance. I think they forgot. I could close on the deal tomorrow, but do
I really want to if insurance won't cover the boat until after the storm
passes?

Don't sweat it.

If you advised the company or agent that you will be purchasing and picking
up the new boat sometime over the next week or so the policy will be in
effect once you do so.

Although you cannot "officially" bind coverage with a VM message, it would
be in your best interest to verify your conversation with your agent via VM
tonight.

After that, relax as you are covered. ;-)

================

No. Don't even think about closing without insurance in place.

I have an application number...which has to be worth something.

Before the check gets handed over, I'll call BoatUS tomorrow morning. If
they say "no go", then I have to wait.

:-(

That locks the deal. Confirm it with a call to your agent before you pick
up the boat tomorrow (even if you get VM) to confirm it.

Relax. You will be covered.

In a way, yes.

In the past, definitely.

But my advice is solid regardless of my background.

========================================

I would personally not be comfortable unless I had at least a fax copy
of the binder. When things go wrong it's what is on paper that
counts.

For what it's worth, the weekend conditions on the gulf look halfway
decent (seas under 3 feet). Are you planning to come down inside or
outside?

Have you ever purchased a car (new or used), advising the agent ahead of
time of your intention but driving it home before insurance papers were in
hand?
