In may have been an accident of history, but you can't deny, there were some powerful, lasting changes during his administration. He may not have been the driver, but he was in the car. 20 years from now, somebody will be saying the same thing about Bush. If there are, you aren't going to like the changes. After Nixon, the Republican Party, and conservatism in general, were hurting, badly. Reagan revitalized the party, and the movement, almost single-handed. Bush is a disaster for both of those concerns. The only thing positive for the Republicans, as it stands now, is the opposition is in such disarray. It's possible for the Democrats to get organized, but it will be impossible for the Republicans to run from Bush's disastrous legacy. And, just think, he still has three years to find bottom. |
