Default OT About Conservatives

Remember your Bible? Who was it that Jesus Christ criticized the most?
The Pharisees.

The Pharisees were a conservative religious group that believed in
following the "rule of law". Jesus represented the "spirit of the law".
Christ called them "hypocrites".

Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican President in the early 1900's, was known
for his no-nonsense approach to government. He was also a progressive.

He is quoted here on this design, "To announce that there should be no
criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president,
right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally
treasonable to the American people."

Adlai Stevenson ran against Dwight D. Eisenhower for President in 1952
and 1956. Richard Nixon was Eishenhower's Vice-president. Both Dick
Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld worked for Richard Nixon, when he was
president.

For over 50 years, the Republicans have stooped to "dirty tricks" and
lying about Democrats to get elected. Nothing has changed. This quote
proves it all.

Adlai Stevenson said, "I have been thinking that I would make a
proposition to my Republican friends...That if they would stop telling
lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them."

The main problem with the Republicans is that they have two
contradictory goals. They seek to prevent governmental interference
with private enterprise and individual liberty, but they also as
conservatives seek to uphold traditional morality. Where these goals
conflict, liberty gives way to conservative values. The Republican
rhetoric about freedom thus becomes empty, bombastic propaganda

"Capital punishment is our society's recognition of the sanctity of
human life." Republican U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch

God told me to strike at al-Qaeda and I struck them, and then He
instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined
to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me, I will act,
and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."
George W. Bush

"All the waste in a year from a nuclear power plant can be stored under
a desk." Ronald Reagan (Wrong, unless the space under your desk can
store 30 tons.)

"Facts are stupid things." Ronald Reagan

"How dare Senator Daschle criticize president Bush while we are
fighting our war on terrorism, especially when we have troops in the
field!" Trent Lott, 2/28/02, after spending the last half of the '90s
criticizing Clinton's use of troops around the world.

Clayton Williams, the Republican nominee for Texas governor when
running against Ann Richards compared bad weather to rape saying, "If
it's inevitable, just relax and enjoy it."

"I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well-placed...
managed to wangle slots in Reserve and National Guard units. . . Of the
many tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as
the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and
owe equal allegiance to their country."

(Colin Powell's autobiography, My American Journey, p. 148)
