Thunder,
You are correct, and it is possible Clinton's trip will keep the disaster relief effort on the public's mind, but it is a photo op, the same as when Bush made his trip to NO was a photo op. We should not expect or even want our politicians to visit disaster sites because it does divert resources from where they are needed most. Yet if you read rec.boats, you can see how people will spin a visit or a "non-visit" anyway they want. I believe Clinton made the trip because he believed it would help raise money and provide emotional support to those in need. The fact that Clinton, or any ex-president, enjoys the limelight, does not diminish the major reason he made the visit. The "Limelight" was just a bonus for Clinton's ego, not his main objective. All the security, traffic problems, etc that are caused. What the hell is Clinton doing, except photo ops? He using a shovel, hammer? I believe Clinton and Bush I were asked by our current President to head up to fund raise for Katrina victims. http://www.bushclintonkatrinafund.org/ |
