I think Edwards was the best choice, from the Rep pov. We now have a pair
of East Coast lawyers running -- one a New England liberal (remember how
well Dukakis did?) and the other a smooth-talkin' southern ambulance chaser.
Edwards will be polarizing to a degree - for good or ill, the country still
remembers the last young, syrupy, southern lawyer that talked his way into
the WH.

Edwards on the stump will make Kerry look like even more of a stick than he
actually is. Additionally, (and this will be the most fun to observe), a
Kerry/Edwards win in '04 could arguably set up the Democrat candidacy stream
through 2016, meaning that Hillary would be into her 70s before her next
shot in 2020. You can bet your farm that the Clintons will be carefully and
quietly working to sabotage the Kerry campaign.
