Default Transducer installation (metal boat)- Anyone ever do this?

I was reading a current Field and Stream magazine yesterday that discussed
transducer installations. They had all the typical installations. The piece
about mounting transducers inside the boat caught my attention. On fiberglass
boats they said you could mount a transducer by using epoxy to attach it to the
hull. Then it said you could mount a transducer INSIDE an aluminum boat but
ONLY if you use SILICONE to mount it. I would really like to do this but most
all the manufacturers say you CANT shoot through an aluminum hull. Has anyone
tried this?
